Review on πŸ” Enhanced Accuracy Gas Detector Pen: General Tools PNG2000A with Natural Gas Detection, Gray by Dave Lopez

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Not sensitive enough to recommend.

I tried this in a real troubleshooting environment with the oven. I was working in one of the rental properties (fortunately renovated and vacant) with an LPG gas stove where I could smell the gas. I found two leaks, one on the external LP tank where the valve was spraying water and detergent, the detector found nothing. Second, the valve inside the oven did not fully close after the heating cycle. I could visually see three burners emitting about two inches of flame when shut off. I could see the problem so I didn't need a detector but I wanted to see if it could detect the leak. After blowing out the flame, I let the burner cool before using the detector. It was an EXTREMELY dangerous leak, a large amount of gas escaping through three holes (remember, shooting a two inch flame once lit is enough). an uncomfortable amount of gas has built up in the chamber, and WAY after smelling the gas. Returned block, it's not sensitive enough to recommend.

Pros
  • The gas detector has an LED display that shows how severe a gas leak could be; solid green, amber indicates 200ppm, red indicates 500ppm
Cons
  • Some small things
