Not sensitive enough to recommend.

I tried this in a real troubleshooting environment with the oven. I was working in one of the rental properties (fortunately renovated and vacant) with an LPG gas stove where I could smell the gas. I found two leaks, one on the external LP tank where the valve was spraying water and detergent, the detector found nothing. Second, the valve inside the oven did not fully close after the heating cycle. I could visually see three burners emitting about two inches of flame when shut off. I could see…

It detects gas when there is a lot of it.

While this does a good job of detecting the presence of gas (I tried NG, propane and butane all detected), you have to have a fairly serious leak to power it up take care of . I was really hoping this would help answer the random "Do you smell gas?" questions and can help ensure gas appliances are plugged in properly. Electronic Bubbles, High Portability, MUCH Better Than Expected

I have been in the heating industry for 35 years and have seen many examples of "commercial" gas leak detectors. There have always been gas testers that were too expensive to buy and permanently calibrated; The first breakthrough I remember was the Tif8800, which was inexpensive and field calibrated. Not to mention the crappy nature of its rechargeable batteries, if you calibrated it per the instructions it was insanely over-sensitive and could literally stumble onto the sensor while breathing.
