The shift knob on my daughter's 2017 CRV is broken. There are many videos on YouTube about this problem and the required solution. Shame on Honda. I decided to disassemble the shifter (remove the cover and two screws) and then the "head" of the shifter slips off. I then removed the end piece from the other side (opposite side where you will be putting the shift knob button) and in doing so it was very good to see where the plastic from the old broken shift knob remained. I then removed the remaining broken piece of plastic. It took me 1 minute to attach the end piece I removed earlier and then install this shifter knob. I then returned to the car, put the shifter head back on the stem, installed the two screws and replaced the cover. It worked wonderfully and my daughter has had no problems with it ever since. I suggest you remove the shifter head like I did. This way you can do all the repair work from the comfort of your own home and still be absolutely sure that all the plastic from the old broken shift knob has been removed. Sure, a few extra steps, but it's cold in Maine this time of year, and why make everything more difficult, uncomfortable, or uncertain when you can actually make repairs in the warmth of your home? Good luck and as I said, shame on Honda.
