This tripod is the first serious tripod I've ever bought. Oh, I bought two $60 packs of Manfrotto at Best Buy and a small travel tripod, but once I got my Nikon D750 and Nikon 200-500 lens I realized I needed a "serious" tripod needed. I looked at a few, read the reviews and decided I needed one that would hold at least 12 pounds securely, was easy to carry in a backpack and wasn't insanely expensive. I think I collected them all here. I made a spreadsheet of all the key specs, including the weight of the tripod and how much it was supposed to hold, and the only other that came close was the Sirui T025X, which weighs half as much and holds about half as much. A safe bet, albeit a little harder, was tested here by MeFoto. I've since used it with a Nikon D750 and Nikon 200-500 lens and a $50 gimbal bought from Revain and it's very stable; no worries.
