and above all a simple way to filter water

If you are looking for a small, light, compact and most importantly simple way to filter your water, look no further. Sawyer makes an AWESOME device that won't break the bank. I bought this filter a few months ago [to add to my survival/camp backpack and have filtered about 40 liters of water through it since. This filter purifies everything from questionable garden hose water to cloudy lake water, turning it into perfectly clean and fresh-tasting drinking water. Of course I was skeptical at first. Who would have thought it was possible to turn dirty brown water into clean, perfectly safe water with such a small and inexpensive filter? But rest assured, this filter performs well and continues to do its best. One of the tips I have for lighter and bulkier filtration is to use a Platypus 2L plastic water bag (link below). It costs less than $10, just like the bottle you get with the filter, except you can use it to filter 70 ounces instead of 16 ounces. I also bought a set of grommets from a local craft store and placed 2 grommets in the corner of the bag in the seam. I then threaded a 1 foot length of paracord through the grommets so I can hang the bottle on a tree branch or other convenient location. This way you can let gravity do its job and get on with your day at camp. I was able to filter 2 liters of water in about 10 minutes this way. One caveat: Sawyer claims that 1,000,000 gallons of water can be filtered through this filter (you'll most likely lose the filter before you get to it). point) regardless of whether cleaning is mandatory. This will significantly increase the life and quality of your filter and water. After each filtration session, I recommend rinsing the filter with clean water using the syringe it provides. Don't be afraid to actually splash water in there, you're just helping your filter. Overall, this filter was a BIG purchase. I don't think you can find a better filter, especially one that costs less than $100! http://www.amazon.com/Platypus-Platy-Bottle/dp/B002NZS142
