Review on πŸ–¨οΈ Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300i: Efficient Color Duplex Document Scanner for Mac or PC by Adam uciuk ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I'm amazed! It was definitely worth the money!

After using a more serious Fujitsu fi-6130Z model for a number of years (20 duplex sheets per minute at 300 dpi gray), I came to the conclusion that if the scanner is made by Fujitsu, it is superior. Although they come with a very hefty price tag, when it comes to dependability, economy solutions are a very long way from Fujitsu when dealing with a daily heavy load. When I purchased this "mobile" model for myself, I was fully aware of its drawbacks, which included the speed of the tray and its overall capacity. When compared to its older sibling, this model is weaker in terms of the flexibility of the software setup. The fact that there is no method to adjust the degree of filling of the page to recognize it as empty (duplex scanning with auto-skip of empty pages) is the most significant drawback for me. This issue has already presented itself a few times in the form of a multi-page PDF containing at least one blank page. As the older brother, I scanned the documents using FastStone Image Viewer (since it has TWAIN), where I removed any blank pages that were not detected, flipped over any pages that were inserted into the scanner on the incorrect side, and then saved the documents as a multi-page PDF. There is no TWAIN available here, and the software, which is a proprietary version of its older sibling, does not permit you to rotate or delete pages before exporting to a multi-page PDF. A "crutch" alternative would be to scan to JPG and then use the "print to PDF" function in FastStone Image Viewer. Since quite some time ago? Twenty seconds, to be exact =) When it comes to scanning at home, I don't have any issues with it. It is all about the negatives. The benefits are readily apparent, such as the fact that the scanner may be stored away in a drawer rather than taking up an entire shelf at home. It can be powered by a laptop and transported in a briefcase or a backpack, and it is portable. When compared to a flatbed scanner, the speed at which a stack of paper may be scanned is far faster. To complete the process, simply click the button located on the body of the scanner after ensuring that the appropriate scanning profile settings have been applied. It is too soon to comment about the reliability of the system. These countdown timers are visible in the software and state that the "pad assembly" has a life expectancy of 10,000 sheets and the "pick roller" has a life expectancy of 100,000 sheets respectively.

Pros
  • + Portable + Able to draw power from both a standard wall outlet and a USB port (occupies two USB ports; one USB port for data, the other for power) + Scanning in both directions in a single pass ensures that the duplex scanning speed is unaffected by the single-page option.
Cons
  • - No TWAIN drivers. When powered by USB, the scanning speed is reduced by a factor of two. The scan speed at 300 dpi is approximately fifty percent slower than the scan speed at 150 dpi.
