We installed it on the side wall next to the 8ft ceiling (white) in a darker hallway. This light works great. But it's so bright, like the sun is shining on you. Overkill for sure - terrible at night when you get up to go to the bathroom. You'll have to buy dimmer stickers and put more than half the LEDs on to bring this down to a more human level. A very high ceiling where you don't have to wake up and suffer, maybe that's normal. But it's like a powerful spotlight turning on and blinding you. Also, it cannot be used in a closet, it will burn if you are near a light, even if it "sees" through walls. Wouldn't buy again.
