I have an 18 year old cat. Sometimes she is confused or lost and pees on the bed. I used to have 2 "waterproof" mattress pads because only 1 didn't work. (3 loads of bedding at least once a week was too much) So far I've been able to stop the mess within an hour and nothing got wet. By adding an enzyme to the washing machine, it comes out odorless. The only downside (let's be honest) is that it's hot. Well, if your four-year-old isn't sleeping next to you and gets into an accident in the middle of the night, you don't need to worry about that part. Unfortunately sometimes my old lady used to pee next to me in my sleep around 3am so I just use a thin blanket and it's winter and I'm beyond roasted. My water and electricity bills thank me for that.
