Review on πŸ”’ Enhanced Safety with Cardinal Gates Stairway Special Gate in Sleek Black Design by Lacey Tschosik

Great for the worst situations.

Good. So I might not like these goals in their actual dynamics, but I like that they actually work in our situation. Cons: Difficult for me as an adult to engage the mechanism. This seems very counterintuitive and will take a lot of practice before I think it will come naturally. I also think this mechanism is louder than other gates we have. Sometimes the instructions were difficult to understand. Pros: We needed a gate at the top of the stairs that had to be mounted with hardware, not pressure (the pressure on the railing was higher than the pressure, pushing it outward). So we had to deal with the railing on one side (which was rounded in some places - we bought a separate railing kit to help with this issue) and then directly across the way we had a handrail that got in the way - so we either needed a gate where the handrail would fit perfectly between the bars, or a gate that could be tilted (like this one) so we could fit it over the end of the handrail - or we had to cut the end off of the handrail (not perfect). Oh, and we had a fancy corner trim opposite the railing, meaning the gate could hook down there, or it would be a different width from the wall than above. Basically - a big pain for the vast majority of goals. So finding this one that allowed us to bypass the fancy trim and handrails was an absolute blessing. Basically if you have a problem and a corner goal would help - I would recommend this to solve your problem. But if you're just looking for a simple gate for a simple door, I'd find one with a simpler mechanism. That being said, I don't think our child will be able to figure it out or have the fine motor skills to open it anytime soon, so that might be a win too.
