This is not a jacket but a thin fleece sweatshirt. It's very soft, the cut is more athletic so I would take a size up than you would expect your child to if they need some space. (Especially to wear under a long sleeve or semi-wobbly shirt.) It's the perfect fit and thickness to wear UNDER an all-weather jacket to add some warmth to the other jacket. This alone will in no way protect your child from feeling the wind, and if the temperature is below 50 degrees and it's windy (e.g. Midwest fall weather), he'll be cold. My son loves it, will end up staying with him but probably wouldn't have ordered it, if i had known Maybe instead spent the money on a real jacket, but it will come in handy. Not a complete waste.
