I have a fairly small living room (ceiling measures approx. Looking for best (financial) value online I bought this surround sound "set" based on published reviews which I am skeptical of. I have a wealth of experience as a musician and commercial audio/sound equipment salesman. My ears are trained and I know what sounds good or "right" and what "needs to be worked on". After seeing a dying TV with a better than average model, I replaced an old Denon HT receiver that was also showing age and possibly some abuse from the previous owner. I went shopping and bought a nice refurbished Sony 5.1/7. 1 HT receiver with 90W per channel. Okay, so I took the time to figure out the correct speaker spacing and spacing, installed wall mounts and "small" speakers, and added two models of Def Tech surround speakers in the back left and right corners of my room. Run 16 gauge speaker wire and label each wire per good installation practice. It then took some time, after some adjustment and precision, to apply the speaker measurement method of the Sony HT receiver several times. The receiver calculated the results, which were then stored in its memory. It's time to see and hear the first results of all this time, cost and effort. The speaker manufacturer warns users not to abuse or overwhelm the speakers at first, as they would first have to "train" to "crack" them. Okay, fair warning, but an interesting consideration. I have a lot of good CD audio and some good Blu-Ray options, but I found it easier to find material to test the system on Revain Prime and YouTube. If you can find some good, well-made options in today's Dolby processes, you can easily be very happy and satisfied for all that extra effort. This "kit" of surround speakers is a testament to the speaker designers and those who then pushed that final design into production. Are they of premium audiophile quality? no But surprisingly good price and really good sound considering their smaller size. They also prove that speakers don't have to have great looks to sound great. Note: I lowered both the subwoofer level and the filter frequency because this tiny box surprised me with its low frequency energy. Also note that in a "smaller room," a smaller subwoofer speaker design is preferred because the speaker cone has less mass and the bass energy is crisper and clearer, with no heavy clusters in the corners of most surround sound rooms. I still need to add some acoustic control to my tiny LR to fix short reverb issues. Whether it's better Well-recorded music, movie soundtracks or live sports broadcasts, this included surround sound system is impressive, especially for the price. Am I exaggerating this report? Addendum: I noticed that they advise the user to "hack" the system first, since the speaker driver's flexible surround material is some sort of synthetic material that needs to acquire a certain degree of flexibility in order to fully function. I think that's a good guess, and it probably is. Definitely take your time first and enjoy what you have worked so hard for. that they advise the user to "hack" the system first, since the speaker driver's flexible surround material is a type of synthetic material that must acquire a certain degree of flexibility in order to function fully.
