The old fashioned fly swatter does the job. I have tried a number of high tech devices and have been disappointed. The flexible shaft provides the flapping motion needed to hit the fly before it has time to fly away. Smashing small bugs is very nice. So far it has held up well but after about 20 flies were killed cold weather halted the hunt. The only other thing that has worked really well if you don't want to spend all day hunting is balsamic vinegar on a cushion of bug glue.
