Call Star Tech Support before using

My goal with StarTech was to capture video/audio from my old JV camcorder while also playing my old VHS-C cassettes [cable] and audio [white and red wires] with a Vizier TV. As the camera video was played back on the Vizio, it appeared the StarTech USB2HDCAP would accept video and audio signals and convert the camera video into modern digital video formats. So I ordered a StarTech USB2HDCAPS video capture unit. After receiving it I called Star Tech Support and they took my computer to download their latest software and other programs. I connected the camera cables to Star Tech and connected Star Tech to my PC. No video was displayed on the PC but audio was heard. StarTech asked if I had another composite video source and an old Sony DVD player. The Sony DVD composite video player for StarTech only showed video in black and white. StarTech advised me to send it back to Revain and order their USB3HDCAPS as this unit has composite video cables. I decided not to spend more and risked that USB3HDCAP would work. A friend has a Panasonic DMR-E85H VCR and he said try it. The DMR-E85H worked with my camera's video/audio for recording to an internal hard drive. A DVD is then created from the video from the hard drive. So the VHS-C tapes run about 20 minutes and now my 20 VHS-C tapes are on four DVDs. AVS Video Converter software converted DVD video to regular digital video format.

Pros
  • cool product
