What I like about this:Compact brick that expands a ton (feels like the never-ending coco brick when you’re expanding it).Easy to moisten what you need while the rest stays dry since it is very densely compacted.Expands to loose material without big chunks.Multi-use material that I ended up using to amend clay soil, as a part of a raised bed mix, and as a mulch around two medium-sized potted trees and around squash and zuchinni plants.The portions I used for mulch have stayed put even though it can be windy, and provide excellent weed suppression and water retention.What I don’t like about this:Cold water does not work well to expand the brick, so I had to keep running back inside to the sink to get warm water.It can be a little messy to expand and use.Using traditional mediums would’ve taken up more space in garden storage, but would’ve been easier and less messy.On the whole: a little bit expensive but I love that it’s organic and can be used for many things including amending soil in containers to help with drainage and prevent over-watering, to amend clay soil in the garden, with heavier compost and soil mixes in large beds when transplanting seedlings and starters you’ve grown from seed, as a mulch, and I’m excited to try it as a growing medium for seed starting.
