Why I give this car 5 stars.

I've been reading other people's reviews of this machine for a while. I have an analog TV that is about 20 years old. The Kinescope still works perfectly, so I don't want to buy a new TV. Of course, after the country switched to digital broadcasting, I needed a DTV set-top box. Like millions of others, I received a $40 coupon and bought a DTV set-top box that stopped working after a few months. I was now looking for a DVD/DIVX player and a DTV receiver. By the will of fate, the two worlds merged into one. There are several such DVD/DVT combo boxes and because they are so new they can only be called first generation combo boxes. I've read in some places that this particular entity is slowly moving from channel to channel. Not true. I don't have an antenna. I just use a 6 foot long one that connects to the back of the box which just hangs on the floor. Reception is ok. crystal clear. Of course I only get about 9 channels, but I think it's better than no channels. I'm not a big viewer. I only wear it for news or when company is coming - background filler. DVD and DIVX sections work fine. I recently recorded and watched the DIVX "Shinobi - Heart Under Blade". It looks good. I hope this box doesn't fail, but you know how difficult electronics can be - they can fail at any moment, like a Ford transmission. Because of the many things this device does, it can only get 5 stars. Oh yes, this device also records. Nice addition, but since I won't be recording anything any time soon, I won't be testing this feature yet. Not the latter, by the way. This car has HDMI. Nice gesture. If my Dino TV goes haywire and I buy a high tech HDMI flat screen TV, I'll be ready.
