I've always taken hard water for granted in Southern California and was jealous of friends and family on the east coast when I visited and their laundry DID NOT NEED a dryer. so as not to bake like cardboard. You'd think you could have an outdoor dryer in the land of the sun, but with hard water, half the stuff always feels like brick after drying. my clothes and left the rest practically unwashed. I've looked at what can be done so that I don't encounter the same problem next time. Reddit suggested these as well as the water softener shower head and they are great! Now I don't need fabric softener, it's generally cheaper and I can dry my clothes on a clothesline or hanger and they never get stiff.
