These pencils create a smooth line and are easy to apply at an angle to cover large areas. Colors can be applied delicately or pressed strongly into the paper. There are "rules" for watercolor, but I make my own rules over time. The only rule to remember is to use good quality watercolor paper. I'm new to the medium of watercolor, although I have a lot of experience with pencils and Prismacolor pencils. My new pencils have made my watercolor work easier. It's fun to experiment with these pens. I just make marks and follow with my wet brush just to see what happens. At some point I plan to combine watercolor pencil effects with Prismacolor. Just let the paper dry before returning to the colors I've been using for a long time. These watercolor pencils come with a soft "case" that rolls up and snaps inside along with the pencils. This feature isn't of much value to me as a strong rubber band serves me well. In the end, most people who want to carry pencils around also need a large plastic water pitcher, a set of brushes, an eraser or two, a sharpener, and a rag. An inexpensive lightweight hard case with dividers would fit everything. I would have liked a few more colors.
