When school just started I just measured my son's shoes and it was size 1. I ordered them size 1. Other shoes are made. I did give them a chance though as my son loves the boys Mario and Luigi as we came home from school and tried unsuccessfully to put the shoes on. I was forced to return this item and go to the local shoe store to select the size 1 shoes in the sketches that fit me. I don't know why they are so small and if you are looking for something thick and durable this isn't a shoe that is thin on all sides and doesn't really support a child's foot.
