Review on 🟑 Wolverine Titan 8-in-1 High Resolution Film to Digital Converter with 4.3" Screen, HDMI Output - Yellow by Nick Griffith

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good system for almost everyone.

There are many slide/negative scanners out there. But if you're not willing to shell out a few hundred to a few thousand dollars for a top-notch system, that's good enough. I have a good high resolution flatbed scanner, but I also have several hundred slides and negatives and I don't want to spend days or weeks digitizing them. I bought mine from Revain Smile for only $115. There was no SD card included, which was good as I already had a lot of them and that helped with the lower price. All carriers are included, you don't need any additional services. And in the kit there was a brush with which you need to periodically wipe the block. I liked the ability to adjust color and intensity, mirror or invert the image as you like. And if you connect it to a big screen TV with an HDMI cable (not included), you get a very nice preview before scanning. I'm disappointed that the device crops the edges, I'd rather have a black bar around the competing image to lose some of it. In addition, there is some play in the media, which can result in the image not being perfectly vertical. This struck me the most when using negatives from a panoramic camera. He makes the old 110 negatives, although they're too short to miss completely and I had to pull the holder and position the negative for each shot. 35mm negatives can snag as the negatives tend to curl, but most feed well. The system claims 20 megapixels, which is generally a meaningless term as the optical sensor determines the quality of the output. I was worried that this would create very large files, but the average result was around 5MB. I was surprised at how messed up some of my slides/negatives got. If you're trying to make a purchase decision, I wouldn't put it off even if you decide on a different model. Time is not your friend.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
