I've bought SP SATA drives before but in 2020 I tried their NVME drives for the first time. I've tried pretty much every type of NVME drive and controller combo and seen all sorts of price points. When I bought this drive I wanted an affordable NVME portable laptop drive with my search criteria: a drive that is 2-3x faster than SATA but not as expensive as a Samsung 970 Pro. This drive is for you. Here are the pros and cons: Pros: Cheap (less than $0.11/GB), Reliable (I've had 3 this year on different systems with no crashes) Cons: Less DRAM (not surprising at this price, your records will be a Take a beating, but it will still be about 3x faster when writing than a SATA SSD) Notable things: Has a Silicon Motion Controller. It is what it is. it works well. That's all they say. This is a budget engine. I'm looking for reliability at this price and better performance than SATA. both of these drives shipped for about 11 cents per gigabyte. Buy it.
