This is the only option to install speaker back boxes in the ceiling (or wall I think) where the Drywall does not have to be opened. The thick rubber can be twisted and slid into the speaker hole and then adjusted to fill the space between the bars. I used them to upgrade the Atmos ceiling speakers in my home theater. I had to trim one a bit because it was leaning against the beam, but other than that I was lucky. The improvement in sound leakage to the upper floor was noticeable, but not great. Because Atmos speakers play down and typically operate relatively quietly, most of the sound comes from the floor speakers and subwoofer. much dirtier. Currently I just have an extra layer of drywall on the ceiling using green glue. If I really wanted to fix a noise leak, I'd do all three: green glue, mineral wool, and these backings.
