I only bought this to have a long strip behind my home theater in my office. It's great - about the length of the media console I keep my electronics on, with spare plugs in case I need to connect anything else. I plan to buy another one for the computer room at some point. It easily holds charging blocks with enough space between them so that any outlet can be used. I can't say much about the surge protection. Since I live in a 1959 house, I took the liberty of saving on installing a whole house surge protector along with some wiring upgrades and leased lines (quite possibly one of the best decisions I've ever made). . I didn't redo the wiring throughout the house, but made upgrades/details in all places where expensive electronics lived. If you have a lot of money invested in electronics, high-end home appliances or whatever. I highly recommend installing a whole house surge protector. The price alone was better than I thought it would be and has saved me a lot of hassle and frustrated substitutions over the last few years.
