My 18 month old boy easily found that pulling the knob would get him out the door. I did a little research and settled on this lock. When we first opened it we were skeptical that it would work. To install it we also had to use a straight razor to cut out part of the lock to fit the base of our doorknob. After that, installation was easy. The lock is installed on the door leading to our laundry room and backyard. The three of us open and close this door dozens of times every day. The lock stays strong after the first week of use. We love that the lock keeps our little one inside (he's still not big enough to reach the mechanism to find out). It is so easy to use that our 4 year old has no problems with it at all. I can open with one hand as long as I'm carrying the laundry basket. And if we close the door behind us, we can of course still go back inside. (Although we can't lift the handle from the outside to get inside, we have to push it down. Minor inconvenience.)
