
I was looking for a fitness short that I could fit my cell phone in comfortably, too, while on long bike rides and hikes. I am 5' 3", 125 pounds 30" waist, 35" hips, and am an ex-gymnast, muscular build. The medium fits well and the waistband is comfortable and doesn't leave elastic marks on the skin. I decided to try the large and the difference is that while it still rides up in the inner thigh, it is not to the degree which the medium do so. I would probably be best between a medium and large, but I'm keeping them both. The large is looser in the leg, but not loose by any means, and the outside shorts are a bit poofier, but not noticeably. I usually wear size 6 in shorts/pants. I would rec. the size medium if you are built similarly to me or weigh a little less and the large, the same if you weight a bit more and are looking for more comfort. They are flattering, not puffy in the hips in either size for my build, even though that was not the most important thing to me, it's a bonus.
