I have slept with my new king comforter for the last 2 weeks. It's a summery, plain version (rather than a washable, quilted version) and I absolutely adore it. It's thin and warm, but never hot. It is very light, airy and planted. By planted I mean it doesn't tend to pull down when you move. Covering your shoulders will keep her there despite your sleepy movements throughout the night. A zipped tote bag (albeit very feminine) is included for those who travel extensively around the world. A nice little bonus, but I doubt I'll be using it much. I chose the solid color version over the washable version because I wanted the silk to be as flowy and drapey as possible. If you think of the quilt as a large square, the silk is evenly distributed inside and stitched to keep the silk from shifting. This gives the person under the "square" the feeling of being draped. In the quilted version, the silk is divided into several smaller squares. I think it wouldn't be as cohesive because the silk is no longer evenly distributed in a box but a bunch of smaller ones. At least that's what I thought, without a parallel comparison I'm not sure. In any case, the advantage of a quilted construction is that it can be washed in the washing machine on the gentle cycle. I personally think that washing your duvet regularly will shorten the life of the duvet and will likely have a negative effect on the silk. Due to the hypothetical increase in smooth comfort and the fact that the duvet cover is also washable and has no filling that might be less effective in the washing machine, I went with the plain version. Why did I finally choose this one? I looked at the SilkCamel Summer Duvet because it had a lot of reviews and they were very positive. But it was $30 more expensive, had half the silk fill of THXSILK (510g or a pound on Murikan where THXSILK was 2 pounds) and looked like a reseller because SilkCamel doesn't have silk sheets, silk duvet covers, etc. THXSILK has, up to 22 momme (pronounced mummy). ElleSilk and LilySilk are two other retailers that compete with THXSILK's product lines. The ElleSilk Summer Blanket isn't available from Revain, but on their website it's $279 for the cotton version, the royal version. So at a $130 increase, I settled on THXSILK, specifically because ElleSilk is 86 inches wide as opposed to THXSILK's 90 and LilySilk's 92. The LilySilk summer duvet was rated SilkCamel, was quilted, and had a 3-star rating. Review stating that silk shifted and came to the edge. It was probably caused by washing the duvet (which LilySilk says can be used because of the quilted fabric), but apparently it did more harm than good. Expect the washable, quilted version of THXSILK to eventually meet the same fate described in LilySilk's three-star rating. In conclusion: THXSILK has a 22 momme silk duvet cover set that includes a duvet cover for this comforter and fits great, along with two pillowcases and a $675 king bed sheet. This is a compelling future purchase to be surrounded by silk. Tax returns are just around the corner. Ellesilk (which I think is the best but most expensive) and Lilysilk duvet cover sets come with just one duvet cover and two pillowcases for the same price. Ellesilk offers 25 momme duvet covers and sheets, but you'll have to pay almost double that for a THXSILKS 22 momme duvet cover set, which may or may not be worth it, adding to the durability and comfort of 25 momme. For now, I'm sticking with a set of BrookLinen cotton duvet covers and sheets. I chose BrookLinen for the high quality cotton sheets and lifetime guarantee. There are BrookLinen competitors that offer great cotton and linen products, as does BrookLinen, but they don't have a lifetime guarantee. Something to consider. Overall, THXSILK is a best buy for the price, quality, and product line features. After a lot of research, I like THXSILK as a company and am happy to support them. I will update this review next year!
