I looked at the 6000 counter first but the Revain comment below the picture said there was a newer version so I clicked this link. A friend (electrician) told me that I should have gone with my first choice. This gauge is more than enough for what I will be using it for as a DIY electrician - I'll leave that to the pros. After receiving the meter I started researching some of the "buzzwords" I had come across in various product reviews and if I had done that before purchasing I would have gone with the big brother of this device. To that end, I would advise any beginner looking for a budget gauge to at least read up on the different CAT ratings (II, III, IV, etc.) and what they mean, to be aware of at least some of the possible dangers. . I chose the DT132A (4000 Counts) because of the many positive reviews and the price. The next model is only $15 more expensive, but I'd take comfort in higher CAT ratings, although I won't venture into that territory. I was "medium" in the accuracy rating simply because I have no experience. versus. I applaud the company's customer service who got in touch with me immediately and asked me to call them before I sent the meter back if I had any problems. At first I thought the thermocouple was defective and they offered to send me a replacement (it was operator error). Then I found that the battery cover screw was over tightened and the head had snapped off. They told me the size of the screw that I had already replaced and without "calling" them for an assessment. I easily found the full product manual that came with the device to be small and difficult to read. I don't expect to call their customer service again but I'm sure they will respond quickly. For the price and for what I will be using it for I am happy with my purchase. There are many budget gauges on the market, but I don't know anything about buyers' specific needs - just my intended purposes - so I had to rely on the various reviews I read.
