They're gritty! I have VERY sensitive skin that gets even more sensitive in the sun. I had to reapply it after a sun reaction (not sunburned but probably equivalent for the average person) because I couldn't get in right away and the sand was sooooo sick! I use these to-go sun sticks for exactly that purpose (repeated use/or occasional forgetfulness) but they are difficult to apply when it hurts and like sunburn, when my skin reacts to the sun it's time when I need sun protection the most! However. It blocks the sun very effectively and prevents (for me) my allergic reactions to the sun and other sun rashes. The other main disadvantage is that it feels heavy. I have fairly dry skin but I can look a little greasy when I use it on my face and it gets weird and heavy on the outside too and lays down too thick and uneven even on my very pale skin (although a bit of which is part of the territory with sun sticks anyway). My favorite is Cerave because it's light yet effective and almost invisible, but it's quite expensive and this one was the best value.
