Review on πŸ“» Black TYT TH-9800 Cross-Band Mobile Car Ham Radio - Quad Band, 50W by John Ruelas

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very good radio, VHF AM Air Band RX excellent

The only major disadvantage of this radio is the delay time between switching on and transmitting, and receiving and decoding to turn on the sound. The delay is a fraction of a second, but it's still noticeable and can cut off the first few syllables, but can be worked around with a bit of patience and practice. In normal use this was hardly an issue but it is there and noticeable compared to other radios I have used. I suspect this is because there is a lot of software running before various functions are run. In that respect, it's not much different from most radios these days. Everything else works as advertised. I particularly like the PC programming port on the back, which allows you to leave everything plugged in and still program the radio. All the normal indicators for such radio stations seem to be pretty good. Sound quality, RF output, etc. are fine. It comes with a splitter kit which is a plus. It also has a cruciate ligament repeater that seems to work pretty well. Updated 2016-11-15 With the radio upstairs I found the VHF AM receiver to be just as good if not marginally better than airplane COM radios. All reports from other radio amateurs about 2M were excellent. 70 cm also seems to have excellent performance.
