These lights work perfectly. My guess is that most of the bad reviews just don't know how to set the backlight properly as the instructions for the app are semi outdated. Make sure you are connected to a 2.4GHz WiFi network during setup. If you don't already know what that means, don't buy it because you're likely to have a lot of problems as well. I bought 12 lights total and they all match perfectly, syncing and changing to any color you want. . I can't say anything about durability yet. If you are tech savvy you can understand this. Edit: As of 04/2020, to add light via the Smart Life app, follow these steps: Connect your phone or paired device to a 2.4GHz wireless network, open Smart Life and click the + icon in the top right corner of the app , click on the lighting menu which is currently the second tab on the bottom left of the screen and click on the "Lighting (BLE + Wi-Fi)” button/option. Follow the instructions from there. You might be tempted to select the "Automatic Scan" option, but I couldn't get them to connect that way. Use the steps above and make sure the lights aren't flashing rapidly, you'll quickly turn them off and back on 3 times, wait 3 to 5 seconds and they should flash quickly to indicate they're ready to go with the app to be paired. If they are not blinking, they are NOT CONNECTING. I think selecting the BLE + Wi-Fi Lighting option is the most important step besides the lights flashing quickly and you are on the correct network wavelength (2.4GHz). Again I bought 3 boxes of these which came in a set of 4 and ALL 12 paired using the steps above with 0 problems. Much luck!
