With portrait format shots, the ball head does not reach into the vertical. Poor technique
it was very close to vertical, but not quite π« When using the portrait direction of the ball head, it just doesn't reach vertical. This is a real problem as of course we spread the legs of the tripod so they are level and the only way to get a vertical portrait on a tripod is to fiddle with the legs. This will destroy the entire tip of the ball head. I took a close look at the ball head, it turned out that this was not a manufacturing defect at all, but rather a technical defect.
