Review on SMAKN HB100 Doppler Radar Motion Detector Module 10.525GHz - Optimal for Microwave Sensor Applications by Issac Smart

Good and bad.

This chip is a great way to break into RF systems. You MUST build an LNA (Low Noise Amplifier) for the "IF" output. You can find these on the datasheet if you google "HB100 Microwave". I currently have it connected to my Mac via Arduino and found a snippet of code to output an object's frequency and speed, basically building a police radar detector. Pros: * Cheap * Easy to use * Arduino compatible * Cool as always Cons: * Documentation isn't included but you can easily find it on Google * The "IF" output is actually the Doppler shift frequency. It doesn't matter, but I wanted the actual output of the IF* chip to be impractical for pulsed operation. In theory, the pulse width it would take you nanoseconds to read the foot in front of you. It's almost impossible and just ridiculous to try. It works better than CW radar *There is no way to increase power. It is limited to an input voltage of 5V, so its maximum range is short (about 30 feet, depending on the amplifier network). I highly recommend it as a motion sensor to turn on a light or door. This is a great little feature. Hope that helps! !

Pros
  • Car Accessories
Cons
  • Ugly Packaging
