The solar panel is nice and compact, about the size of a sun visor on a windshield. The main caveat, however, is that you shouldn't leave it plugged in while the engine is running or it could damage the solar panel's charging circuit, according to the manufacturer. This is not good because my car has a remote start function. I found another product that says it can be left plugged in while driving. This other product features a more advanced MPPT charge controller circuit with built-in run protection. It is sold under the Sun Power (blue) and Sun Energize (green) brand names and is available in 10W and 20W models. Here are the product names: SUNER POWER Waterproof 12V Solar Charger & Maintainer Pro - Built-in Smart Charge Controller MPPT - 12W Solar Panel Continuous Charge Kit Solar Panel Continuous Charge Kit for Car, Marine, Motorcycle, RV, etc. 12V 20W Waterproof Solar Battery Charger Pro - Built-in MPPT Charge Controller + 3-Stage Charging - 20W Solar Panel for Battery Maintenance for Car, RV, Boat, ATV, etc.
