Wear and tear in such special circumstances. I should have spent more and had a pair of shoes to show off. The side seam ripped within the first 2 hours my 2 year old wore it and the insoles came off the shoe during the same trip to the beach. The insoles that protrude into the middle sand get stuck underneath, which means ugly, and the little wet sand feet that come out of these boots mean the insole is thrown over the beach, which means ugh. The lockable drawstring handle that allows you to adjust the ankle opening is nice because it fits and allows you to put them on and off, but the plastic handle then rubs on the ankle and causes blisters on my son. I emailed the seller about the quality after just a few hours of undamaged use, but there was a communication error and my email was sent to another seller. So basically I was paying money for something I could reasonably only use once, which is very annoying. I wish I had figured this out sooner and gotten a refund. Buy the best quality and hopefully you can actually use it.
