Overall the blades are very rough considering they are 400 gauge. I had softer 300 gauge sheets. The sheets felt softer before I washed them and it was only after they dried that I felt a significant difference, even with fabric softener. All fabrics were stained. I didn't examine them before washing but after taking them out of the dryer I noticed there were some stains all over. They were boxed like new but on both the fitted sheet and the top sheet. I've washed them with hand and hammer soap and Kirkland fabric softener, nothing I've done any differently than any other load of laundry. I put detergent directly into the water and fabric softener in a separate area, then sheets are put into the water.
