I don't know why the big heads at Hoover thought inelastic was a good thing, but I've since found myself changing straps more often, not less. Of course, obsolescence wasn't part of the plans. These new belts appear to fatigue and harden, resulting in vacuum performance degradation. While these straps don't require as much force as a rubber band, they do require a pull on the end. I actually use an elastic belt in a vacuum that requires this belt and so far so good but it will be months to see how it works.
