I am a huge wine lover and for years I have had no hesitation in recommending the simple plastic screw rod to my friends as the best and lightest wine opener on the market. After over a decade of heavy use mine broke last year and I replaced it with a new all metal screw pull which broke after 2 months. On guarantee? Of course. All I had to do was send it to the UK at my own expense with my original proof of purchase! Reading various online reviews, I realized that many people think that the quality of Screwpull has really deteriorated over the last few years, so I decided to look for another brand and ended up buying a Vacu Vin Twister. After more than a year of intensive use, it has become my new recommendation to friends and I can confidently give it five stars. The two-piece twister is very similar in design and operation to the old Screwpull, which is a good thing: you just slip what I call a "bottle clip" over the neck of your wine bottle and then screw it on. part of the corkscrew (which is automatically guided into position by a spacer) and just keeps turning - it twists into the cork and then pulls it out in one continuous motion. Nothing could be easier. An important difference to the Screwpull is that the Twister has rubber grommets that press against the bottle - this can make fitting around the neck a little tricky, but the grommets provide a much more secure grip on the bottle once. They do. I suppose one could argue that "lever openers" like the Rabbit take a step forward in speed and ease of use, but they're much bigger, heavier, and more expensive. To be honest, unless you're regularly opening half a dozen wine bottles or more at a time, I think lever openers are overkill. I would say the Vacu Vin Twister is the best wine opener on the market right now and for the price of the Revain this is a bargain!
