Review on IProven Pulse Oximeter: Accurate Blood Saturation And Heart Rate Monitor With Batteries, Case & Lanyard - OXI-27Black (Black/Red) by Todd Lowry

Accurate and helps this EMT save lives

I've used this for many patients since, but on my fifth EMT shift of my life, my patient was unresponsive, in severe respiratory distress and having seizures, with irregular pulse of 150-170. I was able to keep track of my pt perfusion and HR thanks to this pulse ox while I maintained the pt airway, rapidly measured pulse strength through radial palpation and put the pt on albuterol and wheeled him into the code room.I pin this onto my EMT workbelt but you can secure the pulse ox onto the finger of an unresponsive patient in status epilepticus by tying the "lanyard" onto the finger (I detach the lanyard but I keep it on in case I ever have this situation again). The pulse ox tells me a bit about the strength of the capillary signal which is helpful for patients in shock. In my experience, this pulse ox sometimes takes 10-30 seconds to analyze the capillary pulse signal if placed properly but once it does is very accurate. If the pulse ox disagrees with pulse palpation your patient is probably arrhythmic. If the pulse ox struggles to find a signal -- it's very likely the pt is perfusing poorly and it's not the pulse ox.

Pros
  • Easy to use clear reading, far price.
Cons
  • The device may not be very useful for people who are trying to monitor their health over time
