It took hours to set up with troubleshooting. These tips might be helpful.

I had a hell of a time setting up these damn things now they work, here are some tips that may help, I couldn't find a single source for troubleshooting. First, it's very confusing that neither their Avatar smart app nor the more versatile Smart Life app (I've used it for and on other non-Kasa devices) have a *lighting* smart plug-specific setup process. This doubled the number of issues when I tried different possible matches (including lighting fixtures). As I learned from the competing brand's Revain page, you'll need to use an outlet, also known as a standard outlet. They didn't have a reset button, it's tiny but it's at the bottom (when the inserted bulb is facing up). In this position, the flashing Power/Reset icon is at the top. When resetting, be sure to look for the AP mode reset option. The default mode for Avatar & Smart Life was easy mode, but in this case it was impossible mode. AP mode requires a fairly standard step of connecting to a device's hotspot to connect it to Wi-Fi. It used to work fine at this track, but I've spent hours tinkering with these things and no source I could find has pointed out all of these hiccups. hope this helps you 2.) Apps say to start pairing, press and hold the reset button for 5 seconds until the power button flashes slowly. It seemed like 5 seconds. it just kept blinking fast. Eventually I lasted longer, up to 10 seconds, and it switched to slow blinking, try if needed. Since then, the Alexa function has worked flawlessly. Just note I'm fairly new to using LED bulbs, 5.7w works well but two 11w bulbs which I believe are in the specified range made a high while running Noise - mild but very noticeable, rushing from the stairs to the next room. This still happened after testing different bulbs plugged into separate smart sockets and screwed into different bracket sockets - nothing solved. (So, 1 more hour of testing and confusion.) Also, when using the 11w outlet, was it hotter around the base than I think it should be, especially after a few minutes of test running? The 11w tubes were brighter than I prefer, but I'd advise being careful with how many watts you're using - check after a while, hot electronics can be a problem for good reason. If this is giving you a headache, you can certainly see if Kasa has affordable ones that install stuff that easily. It was a much lower price than big brands, but it's still doubtful the juice saved was worth the bother. Much luck.
