The shelf is well packaged. Ours was badly dented during shipping including a hole, we were sure it would be damaged but it wasn't! Easy to assemble - usually shipped assembled! Fold the sides, fold the shelves, place the top on the dowels (you can glue if you want to make it permanent). Sturdy - Sturdy enough to hold our little boy's books. Pretty stable. Another review said it came in two pieces, ours didn't - it was one piece top to bottom. Quality wood, fit and finish were acceptable. My only complaint is that I bought it because of the color - cherry - which is very difficult to match. find right now but the decor of the room is all cherry. When we received it the color was NOT the same as the picture, it is much more brown than the picture shows. I would say it's more of a honey oak color than the traditional cherry color. It has some red in it, definitely not as brown as oak. I've added a picture (of course the phone color may vary) Just for the color I'd return it but in the room it looks good enough and honestly I don't want to bother with it - plus I can't find anything like that in Cherry anyway this does what i need so better leave it!.
