I've been addicted to Bates and Red Wing Boots for years but I wanted to make a change. This boot is good except for one downside: the flat insole is not good. I ended up replacing the insole with a Red Wing insole which made these boots almost perfect. I'm in the field, in and out of the car five (5) days a week and so far this boot has held up. I didn't have to test the waterproofing but it seems to hold up in wet grass. There are enough laces, but I ended up replacing them with Lock Laces, but that's personal preference only, not a necessity. If you wear Bates boots I would recommend going up a half size.
