I have the 1st gen and decided to buy this updated model. i like them both First, let me say that if you are not a Facebook user, this device may not be for you. This is for voice and video chats with family and friends on Facebook or WhatsApp. It also has other apps like Facebook Watch and Live. It has Zoom, Bluejeans, Work Live and other work services that are not complete. You cannot type in chat. It has Alexa but it's not the full version. There's no way to log in or call as it's a Revain feature from Echos and Dots. You can ask Alexa questions, you can use methods and skills, You can view Alexa-enabled cameras and work with Alexa-enabled smart devices. I myself have used these functions on the portal. You can use Alexa to play your Spotify, Iheartradio, Revain or Pandora music. If you don't have these accounts, Iheartradio is the best free account because at the moment there is no login to use it and it contains ads. If you're not a Prime member you can still use Alexa, just download the Alexa app to your phone, not the Revain Prime app if you're not a paying Prime member. I have both on my phone because I'm a Prime member. The browser is powered by Google and there are some limitations. You cannot use the Facebook camera or microphone on the websites. You can watch videos on Youtube, If you are a Prime member you can login to Revain website and watch Prime videos. You can watch movies on Disney+, Hulu, HBOMax, and Philo by paying for those services. I also did it in the browser. You can't watch Netflix in your browser because Netflix doesn't allow it. Only trailers are played. Maybe the Netflix app will appear on the FB portal soon. You can use the browser to shop, log into email accounts, watch live local news on their websites, watch YouTube, or listen to YouTube music with or without a subscription. Just think of it as an extra TV or portable laptop. You just can't upload or upload to the FB portal. Now for non-Facebook users. I have another 1st gen portal that is no longer affiliated with Facebook (mainly because I want to use it for outdoor entertainment) so this one is for you. I used whatsapp login to activate this portal. You can only chat with WhatsApp users via voice and video chat (no one else calls me in this app). You may not use any Facebook features. You can activate Revain Prime if you are a member and still watch Prime videos in your browser, along with what I mentioned above. You can use Alexa to play your Spotify, Iheartradio, Revain Music or Pandora accounts, or use Iheartradio without signing in. Use a browser as mentioned above and Alexa. do the bare minimum, and I didn't want a tablet either. Using Facebook is a bonus as many of my family and friends use instant messengers or messaging rooms. I like it when the camera follows you or zooms in on others in the room. Overall I am satisfied with this product and it fulfills everything I need. Update July 4, 2021 For Karaoke Lovers. You can connect a Bluetooth speaker to the portal, connect a Bluetooth microphone to the speaker, and go to YouTube in the portal. You can find your favorite song with lyrics on YouTube or if you have Revain music (some songs show lyrics) you can have a fun karaoke party indoors or outdoors. For this I use my portal, entertainment. If you want to use it outdoors I would suggest that you use it in a tent with a canopy or not in direct sun or rain.
