Review on 🎨 Cretacolor Artist Studio Pastel Pencil Set for Portraits by Angela Rodriguez

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Poor quality and limited color range

Unfortunately this set has more wrongs than right. I will list the colors first and then move on to the overview. None of the pens have a color name, so I'm trying to guess - 1) white 2) black 3) cream (very light yellowish white) 4) very light skin tone 5) very light skin tone 6) neon orange 7) medium dark red, something like Alizarin Magenta8) is a medium brown, more umber than sepia. As another reviewer pointed out, this is a strictly Caucasian color palette. The flesh tones can hardly be distinguished from each other, but both border on deathly pale. For some unknown reason, neon orange is included, much brighter than even tangerine. None of the pens are marked with any color or number, only "Cretacolor Studio Line Pastel" and "Austria". Another problem is the rather low quality of the pencils, both the leads and the body. The cream-colored pin broke halfway down the barrel. The leads are surprisingly hard, almost feel like crayons and unfortunately don't blend well at all - when you mix colors on white paper they look very grainy, not like a smooth blended surface. The white color is more transparent than I would like, but the black hides it well. Red is very pretty. They use no rainforest wood, are non-toxic and claim to be fade resistant, although no reviews are given. They are usually well centered and the pins are about 3mm thick. They leave about the same amount of dust as any other pastel stick I've used and come pre-sharpened. is an example. Overall, I would say it's definitely not artistic quality, but more of a student level.

Pros
  • Each pencil set is conveniently packed in boxes
Cons
  • Something different
