Cute but Small, Not Easy to Convert, and Suffocation Risk

My husband bought this when our son started rolling and tummy crawling at 5 months. While this is very cute and has fun, playful accessories, it is not practical nor safe. The extra large pad when the sides are down is nice but it doesn't store easily as the sides are floppy and all over the place. When all 4 sides are up, the middle space is very small and doesn't allow much room for baby to move around. I wanted something that would contain our son in a safe space (not rolling into furniture, etc) while allowing him space to move about. That cannot happen with this playmate-it's too small, and I'm worried that there is a suffocation risk if he rolls or crawls up again the fabric sides. I did some more searching on ebay and bought a mesh ball pit instead that folds up (smaller footprint/easier to store) that allows my son more space and breathability. I just put another playmate that we bought used, but like new on Facebook Marketplace inside the mesh. ball pit, and it works like a charm. It's safer, more compact and portable, and much cheaper (about $15). The walls of this are not sturdy at all, so it will not provide any support for the baby in sitting. It's hard to convert the extended playmat to the ball bit (with walls up) because you have to pull the bar legs out of the pockets and uphook them, then you have to attach them to the inside and hook them. Then you have to velcro the corners. I thought it would be one easy motion on each side to make the conversion, but no, you're looking at at least a few minutes to convert, not just a quick simple mode change that takes seconds. Not very convenient when you want to switch back and forth regularly. So, cute but not practical and not worth the money.
