Bought 4 of these - for home and for several family members. I've tried it on water and gas lines in two houses and it works great. My local fire department encourages you to keep such a tool near your gas meter and make sure your valve doesn't "get stuck". Note, however, that they also warn you not to turn off the gas all the way when attempting to use the tool or your indicator lights will go off. (If this happens, they say, call your gas company - most of them will light your pilots for free.) It was a good idea to partially turn the gas and water valves to make sure we could do that in an emergency . In my grandmother's house, the gas tap was painted over and actually stuck. I don't think she would have been able to turn off the throttle if I didn't turn it off for her again. (Remember, don't turn it off completely!)
