There were many reasons why I purchased this item so I will do my best to give a quick concise version. As an RC airplane, helicopter, and automobile enthusiast, a soldering iron is one of those must-have items in your toolbox. I use Deans connectors at every opportunity and to be honest I've always had problems with both of my instant hot soldering guns. They just didn't seem to heat up quickly or very hot, and as a result I've damaged many connectors beyond repair. This particular soldering iron is a prime example of versatility. First, it runs on butane, so no electricity is required. The kit itself contains 3 of the most common nozzles and the documents supplied indicate many more nozzles that can be ordered separately. This tool is very easy to use: just flip the gas switch to the "on" position and use another one. Slide switch to activate the igniter. Within a minute or two, the tip will reach operating temperature, and then you can adjust the temperature up or down at the end of the tool. This is one of those tools that I wish I had found many years ago. Between my pencil soldering iron and my two instant hot soldering guns, I could almost buy two of these tools. I really like this one and it comes in a nice compact box with storage space for extra attachments. Now that I have this there are no 3 wire tools in my tool chest that were bulky and heavy.
