Review on Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED Zoom Lens with Auto Focus - Ideal for Nikon DSLR Cameras by Takahara Hideo ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Everything about the purchase suits me, a very necessary product.

All of the above shortcomings, in my opinion, do not spoil the lens in any way, but are its features that you just need to get used to. The lens is really beautiful and technically perfect. It reveals the widest possibilities for the photographer in terms of shooting conditions. You don't have to think about shooting technique with him, you have to think about the frame and composition with him. Always fast, accurate and sharp. This is the first lens in my life that does not want to cover the aperture.

Pros
  • 1. Stupidly sharp, with sharpness across the entire field at all apertures. Even at 17mm and f/2.8; 2. Weight! I can easily shoot at 1/30! with light lenses - shake. less than 1/60 has never been achieved before; 3. Chic lens hood (attached to the lock); 4. Fast and tenacious auto-focus. No need to aim at contrasting zones. Easily focuses on a uniform field; 5. Dust and moisture protection.
Cons
  • 1. The zoom ring rotates tightly and unevenly, and starting from 17mm it is easy, but by 55 it is already very tight. 2. This ring is also located very close to the camera body. you have to bend your arm strongly during rotation, which is not very convenient, especially when you need to quickly transfer the FR from 17 mm to 55 mm. However, this arrangement of the ring allows you to wear the hood on the lens in the expanded position, while its giant petals do not cover the zoom ring.
