There was a small problem with the first scale I received. Sent back, waiting for replacement. From what I saw the scale looked very good. The shipper, aSavings, has excellent customer service. I will update this review when I receive a replacement model. Update: A few days later I received a replacement device. Now that I've had time to work with this scale, here's what I think: When I bought this scale, I was looking for a semi-professional scale, but in the price range of a kitchen scale. This scale fully meets all requirements. It has the capacity I need for all my recipes and the high precision I need when adding spices. Construction: The top of the device looks like real stainless steel. Goes very well with my stainless steel kitchen. The body is made of durable plastic. The top can be easily removed for cleaning. The display and buttons are very easy to read and press. It has a front panel that slides out if your pan is too big. I don't need this feature because my largest pan is 10 inches and doesn't cover the display. Capacity: I filled my 10 inch pressure cooker with 6 liters of water and got 16.33 pounds. The max weight is 17.5 pounds so I decided to stop there. By the way, if I cook a stew of this size, it could feed 25 people or a family of 5 for a week. Accuracy: With a pot of water, I switched to a microbalance that claims an accuracy of 0.1g and measured out 2 grams. Then switched back to the upper scale. After adding salt, the readings increased by exactly 2 grams. As for the microscale, I gradually added salt. The lowest value I could get was 0.3g. That equates to about 1/16 teaspoon of salt. As more salt was added, it rose to 0.5g, then 0.4g, then 0.6g. Although the display can show measurements down to 0.1g, the practical limit is around 0.2g with a minimum of 0.3g. Cons: The instructions state that batteries are included. When I received my first scale I thought it was a return as the batteries were missing. When the replacement arrived, however, batteries were also missing. When purchasing this device, only plan on purchasing 3 AA batteries. The only other problem I had was getting the microbalance out without lifting the unit. My workaround was to stretch the scale a bit before I started using it. That way I could easily pull the dial out to switch between the top dial and the micro dial. Once you click on the micro dial, you have to lift the device to slide your fingers underneath and pull it out. Responsiveness: This scale has a percentage function that makes it easy to scale your recipes up or down. I haven't fully tested this feature, so I won't say more (maybe in a later edit). They always weigh in grams but have an additional display that can toggle between grams, ounces and pounds. Bottom line: if you're looking for a semi-professional kitchen scale that won't break the bank, look no further! This is a well-designed scale that allows you to cook for a large family as well as providing the accuracy you need for delicate recipes that call for precise amounts of spices. aSavings customer service is exceptional.
