I bought this unit hoping it would work as advertised but it turned out to be a lot worse than I imagined. The bottle says it will "discolor your water for 48-96 hours," but it's been a week and a half now and it's getting worse. It's in a 55 gallon live plant tank that I've had since 1994. I have never been more concerned about the ecology of my aquarium than since adding this product. The tank turned rusty brown as soon as I added the product and I expected it. But instead of fading out after 48-96 hours it got worse every day and now I can't even see the fish from one end of the tank to the other. It's a dark coffee brown and as much as I'm concerned about the imbalance in my tank, I'm going to start doing the water changes unscheduled until I get the water at least a little clearer. At least enough to see the fish anyway. Luckily I only used half the recommended dose for testing. If I had put in the recommended amount I can't imagine what a pitch those poor fish would be swimming at now. Okay, now it's time to get some water. ***Update*** It took about two months, but after weekly water changes I finally had the water almost clear again. The only thing I can think of is that the product may have pulled out a lot of the tannin from the wood I have in the tank, but I cooked the wood in the 90's so it wasn't causing any problems and I don't know how many more would there be for that. The only thing I can think of. The fish survived and that's a lesson for me.
