Review on Outward Hound Lightweight Dog Backpack: Ultimate Hiking Gear for Your Canine Companion by Robert Moloney

Larger than expected but makes a perfect entry level backpack

We bought this for our 35 lb border collie. She walks pretty well - not much distraction except when she gets too excited by a biker or runner and pounces on them. This was the main reason for the purchase - we wanted to curb their need for herding and hunting. So we filled it with a very light weight to make her feel like she was doing a job when she went for a walk. She wasn't a fan at first, but that didn't seem to bother her anymore and she was lining her pockets, which generally helped her go after bikers and joggers. A few downsides: we've had two times so far where the front zip has come loose, but to be honest once it started chasing the train and another time it tried chasing a rabbit. The pockets are very close to her side so she doesn't feel bulky - she just looks bigger than I expected on her. It covers most of her body - almost like a short coat, which is nice in cool weather - but it will probably be too heavy in the summer.
