Very good rice cooker with lockable functions to make great rice

This Cuckoo rice cooker is well designed and price competitive compared to Big Japan rice cookers. Our family eats rice almost every day and we have experienced many chefs from different companies. We decided to look into high-end pressure induction rice cookers because we eat rice every day and wanted to know if we were missing out on anything special. Browsing around Revain, I found the only Cuckoo and Zojirushi pressure induction rice cookers, with Zojirushi costing about $200 more than Cuckoo cookers. I decided to try the Korean brand. First impressions: I don't speak Korean, how do I make this stove quiet? Okay, I found a way to turn off the sound. Before the first use, the rice cooker with the steam function needs to be cleaned to get rid of the smell of new plastic. Very heavy and durable construction. Due to the pressure, the cooking process is louder than in any conventional rice cooker. The pot looks heavy and definitely exudes a sturdy vibe. This rice cooker is very versatile. If you delve into the instruction manual, there are 16 cooking modes for plain white rice. 16! The default mode keeps the rice firm and sticky, which is nice, but you can change both the soaking time and heating temperature during cooking (with 4 variable settings) for a chewy, lighter texture. Since you can cook so many textures of rice, you will find it much easier to eat rice on a daily basis. A month has passed and we have cooked white rice at least 20 times with this cooker. Cuckoo Rice is fully customizable so you can have sticky rice today and crumbly rice the next day. It's really nice to have that kind of flexibility, and we haven't even tried the other modes. The pressure gives the white rice a special texture (crumblier and stickier) that I haven't found on cheaper models and we love it. The improvement is noticeable, but it's not a big difference. Maybe 5-10% better. If we are talking solely about cooking white rice in this review, this cuckoo cooker will not disappoint and hopefully it will continue to cook rice for years to come.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Without automatic control
